CHANUKKAH
Called "The Festival
of Lights, in 2011,
it begins at sunset
on December 21 and
ends December 28 just
before sunset.
Chanukkah honors the
victory of the Jews
in the year 167 B.C.
over the Greek's
religious persecution.
When the Jews returned
to rededicate their
temple with light, they
found a one-day supply
of ritualistic oil that
burned for eight days.
Each Chanukkah, there is
a joyous festivity for
eight evenings and days.
Candles are lit in an
eight-branch Menorah
and small gifts are
given to family and
friends.

CHANUKKAH and CHRISTMAS
Christmas is a major
festival and public
holiday in the United
States. Religious
services are held to
celebrate the birth of
Jesus. Festivities
include gift-giving,
home and tree decorations,
as well as the childhood
enjoyment of Santa Claus.

CHANUKKAH and KWANZAA
Kwanzaa is a week-long
secular holiday honoring
African-American
heritage. It is observed
from December 26 to
January 1 each year in
the United States.
Kwanzaa is seven days
of celebration,
featuring activities
such as candle-lighting,
pouring of libations,
and culminating in a
feast and gift-giving.
It is the African
American branch of
"first fruits"
celebrations of
classical African cultures.
